Man dies 5 days after being shot while driving in NE Portland


PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A man died on Wednesday, five days after being shot while driving in northeast Portland, the Portland Police Bureau announced on Saturday.

On Oct. 4 shortly before 6 p.m., people flagged down a police officer about a crash at Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Columbia Boulevard. Officers learned that one of the involved drivers had been shot and injured before the crash.

With little more than three weeks from election day, the Portland Police Bureau has increased training for their Rapid Response Team (RRT).

The victim, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Dwayne Bell, Jr. of Portland, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He died at the hospital on Oct. 9 from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The initial investigation determined that the suspect or suspects had shot at Bell from another car and then sped away.

Police have not made any arrests, and have not released any suspect information.
