- Oscar will bring rain and strong winds to Cuba and the Bahamas.
- Nadine will continue to bring heavy rain from Belize to Mexico.
- Neither storm is a threat to the United States.
Hurricane Oscar is expected to remain a Category 1 hurricane today as it moves through the Greater Antilles while Nadine pushes through Central America. Both Tropical Storm Nadine and Hurricane Oscar have formed since 2am Saturday.
Neither system is a direct threat to the United States, but Nadine could bring flooding to Central America in the coming days while Oscar brings rain and strong winds to the Bahamas and Cuba.
Oscar Now A Hurricane Near Hispaniola, Southern Bahamas
Hurricane Oscar made landfall on Great Inagua Island in the southern Bahamas early Sunday morning as a Category 1 hurricane, and another landfall is possible this afternoon near Guantanamo or Holguin, Cuba.
Hurricane warnings have been issued for the southeastern Bahamas, and eastern Cuba where hurricane conditions are expected later this weekend into Monday.
The Hurricane Hunters flew around inside of Oscar Saturday afternoon and found its intensity is much stronger than originally thought. Oscar is the 10th hurricane of the season. Oscar has intensified since.
It will push westward over the remainder of the weekend toward the eastern tip of Cuba and the central Bahamas, then be turned northeastward across the Bahamas in the week ahead. Little to no impact from Oscar is expected in Florida.
Additional intensification is expected before Oscar nears eastern Cuba, but given Oscar’s small size, it could be vulnerable to big changes in intensity.
Damaging winds and several inches of rain are the most likely threats to parts of the Bahamas and eastern Cuba through Monday or Tuesday.

Nadine: A Central American Rainmaker
Nadine made landfall near Belize City, Belize, Saturday afternoon with 60 mph winds and a large shield of rainfall stretching across the western Caribbean. Nadine formed in the wee morning hours of Saturday north of Honduras.
Nadine will be pushed westward into eastern Mexico with gusty winds and heavy rain through the weekend.
The system is not a threat to the United States.

The main threat from Nadine is heavy rain in Belize, Guatemala, and southern and eastern Mexico.
As it moves westward, it will bring 3-8 inches of rain in those countries with some communities seeing up to 15 inches.
