Explosion hits Beirut suburb as Israel says it has ‘targeted’ Hezbollah commander | BBC News

At least one explosion has hit a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, which is a base for the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah.

Israel’s army said it has carried out a strike, which it said targeted the Hezbollah commander responsible for a deadly attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday.

Israel blamed Hezbollah for that strike – the group has denied involvement – and an Israeli reaction had been expected following the incident over the weekend.
