Hurricane Helene deaths overcounted, Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office says


THIS IS BREAKING NEWS. BREAKING NEWS IS FIRST AT FOUR. THERE IS AN UPDATE ON THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN OUR STATE WHO DIED FROM THE BUNCOMBE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE OVER COUNTED DEATHS BY AS MANY AS 30. OFFICIALS IN THE COUNTY, WHICH INCLUDES THE CITY OF ASHEVILLE, PREVIOUSLY REPORTED 72 DEATHS AND NOW THEY ARE AGREEING WITH THE STATE TALLY OF 42 DEATHS FOR THE COUNTY. On Tuesday, the spokesperson told WXII:”In the early aftermath of Hurricane Helene, all deaths were being classified as storm-related and from Buncombe County. However, as the days progressed, BCSO was able to identify who had passed away due to the hurricane, who was, in fact, from Buncombe County, and who passed away from other causes. Although county officials have been reporting 72 deaths, North Carolina State officials, relying on reviews by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh, have consistently reported 42 deaths since Oct. 10, according to AP.

On Tuesday, the spokesperson told WXII:
