VANCOUVER, Wash. — One person is dead and two are injured after a shooting at the Vancouver Mall on Thursday evening. Police are asking people to avoid the area during the investigation.

The Vancouver Fire Department told KGW that they dispatched four to five units to the mall on a report of a shooting. Paramedics have transported two patients to a local hospital, but their conditions are not known at this time. One person was dead when they arrived.

The Vancouver Police Department initially posted on Twitter, also known as X, that they were responding to a “disturbance” and that more information will be available later. The department later confirmed that there had been a shooting and they were still investigating.

The agency added that there is currently no active threat in the mall, and police are making contact with people who sheltered in place inside. A reunification area has been set up outside Hobby Lobby for people separated during the shooting.

“Anyone that has been sheltering in place inside the mall can leave through any open exit,” VPD said in a tweet. “Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to call the VPD Tip Line at 360-487-7399.”

KGW reached out to the security at the Vancouver Mall, but they declined to comment, deferring to management.
