The 13-year-old student who entered Kenosha’s Roosevelt Elementary School on Thursday carrying a backpack and duffel bag has been charged with one count of terroristic threats.

THEY ALSO SAY HE HAD AN EXTENSIVE SEARCH HISTORY ON HIS DEVICES, LOOKING UP HOW TO EXECUTE A SCHOOL SHOOTING, PREVIOUS SCHOOL SHOOTINGS AND SPECIFICS ON THE SCHOOL BUILDING. THIS MORNING, HE HAD HIS FIRST COURT APPEARANCE HERE ON A VERY SERIOUS CHARGE IN A CLOSED DOOR COURT HEARING FRIDAY MORNING. POLICE RELEASED THIS SCHOOL SURVEILLANCE PHOTO THURSDAY MORNING SHOWING THE MAHONEY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT TRYING TO GET INSIDE ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY, CARRYING A BACKPACK AND A LARGE BLACK DUFFEL BAG. STAFF CONFRONTED THE BOY AND HE RAN OFF. WELL, 14 YEARS OLD, BLACK PANTS, BLACK HOODIE, BLACK BACKPACK, POSSIBLY A NIKE CARRYING A BLACK RIFLE CASE. POLICE SAID AFTER RELEASING THE PHOTO, THEY RECEIVED MULTIPLE TIPS LEADING TO THE BOY’S ARREST AT HIS HOME. 12 NEWS OBTAINED VIDEO OF THE TEEN IN HANDCUFFS. KENOSHA POLICE CHIEF PATRICK PATTON SAYS THERE WERE RED FLAGS SHARING THIS VIDEO. THEY SAY SHOWS THE TEEN PRACTICING WITH WHAT LOOKS LIKE A GUN INSIDE THE TEEN’S HOME. POLICE FOUND AIRSOFT REPLICA RIFLES AND HANDGUNS, BUT NO REAL WEAPONS. THEY ALSO SAY HE’D SEARCHED THE INTERNET ABOUT HOW TO CARRY OUT SCHOOL SHOOTINGS. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN KNOWN. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAD BEEN TOLD TO PEOPLE OF HIS HIS GROWING INTENTIONS. POLICE SAY THE TEEN FIRST TOLD DETECTIVES HE WENT TO THE SCHOOL TO SELL CANDY, THEN LATER SAID HE WANTED TO SCARE THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. ALL THE RED FLAGS THAT WE WOULD LOOK FOR AND EXPECT SOMEONE TO REPORT WERE THERE. WE NARROWLY MISSED A TRAGEDY. KENDALL. YESTERDAY WE HEARD THE POLICE CHIEF SAY HE BELIEVED THE TEENAGER WAS ARMED. DO WE KNOW IF HE HAD A GUN OR AN AIRSOFT REPLICA WHILE AT THE SCHOOL? WELL, KRISTEN, I ASKED POLICE THAT QUESTION TODAY AND THEY SAID THEY’RE NOT SURE WHAT EXACTLY WAS IN THOSE BAGS. THE TEEN CARRIED INTO THE SCHOOL. I ALSO ASKED THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE IF THEY PLAN TO CHARGE HIM AS AN ADULT, OR IF THEY WERE PURSUING CHARGES AGAINST ANYONE ELSE. The 13-year-old student who entered Kenosha’s Roosevelt Elementary School on Thursday morning carrying a backpack and duffel bag has been charged with one count of terroristic threats. Kenosha police said Friday that the student was arrested Thursday afternoon at his home after he surrendered. The teen appeared in court Friday morning. Reporters were not allowed in the court room. Police said detectives executed a search warrant of the suspect’s home after the arrest and found several airsoft replica handguns and a replica rifle. They said they did not find any real firearms during the search. A news release said the suspect’s mother was cooperative during the investigation and said the suspect does not have access to firearms. Police have not made any other arrests in connection to the incident. In an interview with detectives, the suspect told police he claimed to go to the school to sell candy, but later told a social worker that he went to the school “with the intent to scare students.” Police said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Kenosha police at 262-605-5261. There is no school at Roosevelt on Friday, which was previously scheduled for a staff workday.
