New Orleans police deadly shooting in the St. Roch area
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating two separate shootings that left at least 10 people injured and two people dead in the St. Roch area. According to police, the first shooting happened around 3:40 p.m. in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue in the St. Roch area.New Orleans police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says a car shot into a crowd, hitting and injuring nine people. They were all transported to a local hospital. Police say the second shooting happened at the intersection of Almonaster Avenue and Florida Avenue 45 minutes later. When emergency medical services arrived at the scene, they found two people suffering gunshot wounds. EMS pronounced one person dead, and the other victim was transported to a local hospital, where they later died.A third victim reportedly involved in the incident arrived at a local hospital and was treated for their injuries. Police say they are listed as stable. Kirkpatrick says that because no cars were allowed on the bridge at that time, the shots came from the crowd. NOPD immediately shut down the second line event as part of the investigation.This is an ongoing investigation. The violence must end.”City Council president Helena Moreno issued the following statement: “I’ve been in communication with Chief Anne Kirkpatrick through the night. NOPD is actively working to swiftly track down the shooters in coordination with Louisiana State Police. This was supposed to be a day of celebration instead it was destroyed by gunfire. We will not allow for our community to be terrorized and those responsible will be brought to justice. I pray for the lives lost, those injured during this tragic event and those traumatized by what they witnessed.”
