When it comes to streaming devices, none are as good value as Amazon’s Fire TV Sticks. You can get some really affordable options, but I think the Fire TV Stick 4K (2023) is arguably the best option of them all – not too expensive but full-featured.

While any streaming device will give you access to practically all platforms, plus some other apps too, the Fire TV Stick 4K stands out by offering a speedy navigation system, great performance, support for 4K resolution and Dolby Vision. It’s also controllable via the Alexa voice assistant.

It’s also Wi-Fi 6 enabled, plus you’ll get access to Xbox Game Pass via the device to play your favourite games. That’s a lot of features for not a lot of money. Amazon has slashed the price of the Fire TV Stick 4K by half, so you can pick it up for just AU$49.

Black Friday deals are coming in thick and fast now, but how do you actually find the best bargains? Well, spending time to do some research in the lead up to the official sales is always the best way, but below are some of my tips to make sure you get the deal you’ve been holding out for.

• Firstly, start by making a list of what you want to buy, then keen an eye on the price history. You can use tools like CamelCamelCamel if you’re a regular Amazon shopper, or even check price comparison sites like Getprice.
• Figure out what kind of specs you’re after, but be flexible – the top line might be beyond your budget even after discount, but a slightly lower-specced model might suit you just fine and save you a lot of cash too.
• So, you’ve found the deal you were looking for a retailer, but always widen your net and check other stores – someone will price beat (if not price match) and you could even score yourself additional incentives like a bundle package or a free gift. Definitely shop around.
• While it’s fair to say the best deals will be during the actual 4-day Black Friday to Cyber Monday period – which is November 29 to December 2 this year – retailers start their sales early and you could miss out if you dally on items that have low stock. So don’t hesitate to commit early, particularly if it’s an item you really have been waiting for.
• And in case the price does drop further after you’ve made your purchase, I’d strongly recommend leaving the item in its box till the sale is fully over. That way you can always return it and buy it elsewhere for a better price.

I’m not an NBN expert, but I do have a colleague who is – he’s been hunting down the best NBN plans and best internet deals for a couple of years now, so when he recommends something, I sit up and take notice. You should too if you’re keen to save on your home internet bills.

Buddy – a budget-focused offshoot of the well-regarded ISP Aussie Broadband – is offering AU$60 savings over six months on its NBN 25, NBN 50 and NBN 100 plans, but it’s the fastest NBN 1000 plan that my colleague says is the best value.

There’s no discount per se, but the AU$99 monthly charge is the cheapest you’ll find right now, and the best news is that the NBN provider has recently increased its typical evening speed claim from 600Mbps to a staggering 875Mbps! That’s the second-fastest in Australia, and up to AU$40 per month cheaper than the fastest provider, Swoop.

It’s that time of year again – Christmas decorations are already up at shopping centres around Australia and the discounts have already started. Yes, it smells like Black Friday.

While the 2024 Black Friday sale date is officially November 29, retailers aren’t waiting to treat their customers, which is excellent news for the Aussie shopper. You can start your Christmas shopping early and treat yourself to something new for the new year too.
