Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter Will Duet on Carpenter’s Netflix Christmas Special

Sabrina Carpenter truly knows how to keep on giving. First, it was the caffeine-laden song of the summer. Then, it was aiding in the indictment of New York City mayor Eric Adams. Now, she’s teaming up with 2024’s other biggest new pop star to maximize their joint yuletide slay.

Chappell Roan will join Sabrina Carpenter for a duet in the latter’s upcoming Netflix holiday special A Nonsense Christmas, which will debut on the streamer on December 6.

Though it’s not yet clear what the two will sing together, this is a collaboration that many have been asking for, especially given that they each had meteoric rises in 2024, culminating in a host of overlapping Grammy nominations.

For the special, Carpenter will also sing duets with Tyla, Shania Twain, and Kali Uchis, while, according to the trailer, the special will also include comedic skits featuring Quinta Burnson, Cara Delevigne, and SNL’s Kyle Mooney.

While Mariah Carey is still undoubtedly the Queen of Christmas, it is nice to see a budding pop diva like Carpenter take up the mantle of producing a televised Christmas special. Lady Gaga released A Very Gaga Thanksgiving, which aired on ABC in 2011.

Two years later, Gaga repeated the holiday cheer, accompanied by some of the biggest felt-based names in Hollywood when she released Lady Gaga and the Muppets Holiday Spectacular in support of her then-newly released album Artpop.

Carpenter’s Netflix special puts a festive button on what has been an incredible year for her, as she has not only become a chart-topper, thanks to her songs “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” she’s also become a newly-minted gay icon (even though she has sung that “the lord forgot” her own “gay awakening”). Carpenter even nods to her fanbase in the trailer for the special; while rummaging through racks of clothes, one garment bag is clearly labeled, “For the Gays.”

Carpenter is currently on tour in support of her Grammy-nominated album Short and Sweet. Earlier this week, footage from her Los Angeles tour stop went viral after she brought on SNL’s Marcello Hernandez in character as Domingo from the viral “Espresso” sketch to banter with her.
