Pioneer Courthouse Square Christmas tree lighting kicks off holiday season

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The holiday season is officially underway in Portland as the Pioneer Square Christmas tree was illuminated in a festive ceremony Friday evening.

Santa Claus himself flipped the switch at approximately 6:15 p.m., bringing the 75-foot tree to life with more than 9,500 twinkling lights.

A large crowd gathered to witness the annual event, which also featured carolers who added to the holiday spirit with their cheerful songs.
