Husband accused of killing wife in Clackamas County to appear in court for murder charges
WELCHES, Ore. — The Welches man accused of murdering his wife shortly after she filed for divorce is due in court Monday afternoon.
According to officials, Michel Fournier is being held without bail in connection to the death of his wife, Susan Lane-Fournier.
Lane-Fournier, 61, was originally reported missing on Nov. 22. On Nov. 29, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they had found her remains at a location near Highway 26 and East Miller Road around 8:30 a.m.
Deputies had attempted to locate Lane-Fournier at her home on Nov. 22 after her employer reported her missing following her failure to show up for a shift.
The following day, a community member spotted her white 1992 Ford F-250 parked along E. Salmon River Road near the trail. Investigators initially believed she was hiking in Mt. Hood National Forest with her two Malinois-mix dogs.
On Nov. 23 a multi-agency search began, with help from volunteers from Clackamas Search and Rescue, Portland Mountain Rescue, Mountain Wave Emergency Communications, and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue. Many members of the community, including her friends and family, joined the search.
On Nov. 27 KATU spoke with Lane-Fournier’s son, Dakota Lane, at the search scene.
“It’s better to assume and not act than assume and act and we’re just trying to remain calm, stoic, and hope for the best,” he said.
However, the search was officially canceled that same day.

On Friday, November 29, a community member found Lane-Fournier’s body near Highway 26 in the Welches area.
Detectives arrested Michel the same day, and he was booked into the Clackamas County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder.KATU has obtained divorce records between the couple citing irreconcilable differences. The paperwork was filed on Oct. 31, 2024.
On Saturday the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office recovered two deceased dogs believed to be Susan’s. The dogs have been transferred to the custody of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
In court documents obtained by KATU News, the state alleges that on or about Nov. 22, the day Susan was reported missing, Michel Fournier “did unlawfully and intentionally cause the death of Susan Marie Lane, another human being.” The state also alleges that the offense constitutes a crime of domestic violence.
Michel Fournier is expected to be seen in Clackamas County court around 2 p.m.
