The Latest Updates On Login Issues

Path of Exile 2’s developers warned everyone ahead of time that there would be login, server and queue issues at launch, and it should come as no surprise that there are…login, server and queue issues at launch.

Though Path of Exile 2 was supposed to launch at 2 PM ET, as I write this, game is still offline after the game offered a number of updates about what was going on. They are:

  • 1PM, before launch –“We’re doing some last minute database upgrades to try help handle the overwhelming amount of Exiles getting ready to LOGIN to Path of Exile 2. We’re trying to get this done ASAP, but it may cause a short delay in the servers going live.”
  • 2:20 PM, after launch – “We’re still working on deploying the database improvements and will keep you updated as soon as we know more. The moment we can provide a precise timeline we will. Thank you very much for your patience.”
  • 2:30 PM, after launch – “We’ve deployed the new database configuration and are working on getting everything back up and running. Our current time estimates should have access opening within the next half hour. Thanks again for your support, we’ll continue to provide updates as they come.”
  • UPDATE, 3 PM – “Another update, we’ve found a last minute crash that would have affected a majority of users that we have now fixed and is being deployed, once that’s out we will be doing our final checks then opening access. If there are any further updates we will let you know immediately, once again thank you very much for your patience, we’re almost there!”
  • UPDATE, 3:50 PM – ‘The problem we ran into was due to adding more database shards in the last minute to try to support the massive player numbers. Unfortunately there was an issue which caused multiple characters to have the same character id. Thankfully the problem has now been found and is being fixed at this very moment. Your ongoing patience and support is hugely appreciated and we will continue to provide updates as we learn more.’

If the next half hour comes to pass, that would be 3 PM ET before access opens again (oops, nevermind) and servers go up. In theory. Right now, it’s been impossible to get in, but that has not stopped the game from putting up stunning numbers, like a million concurrent viewers on Twitch when everyone is currently just stuck at the login screen. The game also has 306,000 concurrent players on Steam and climbing for just the login screen, and the game appeared to actually caused Steamdb to crash at one point.

It is no great shock that there is a ton of interest in Path of Exile 2, given the game’s storied history and just how long this has been in the making. While we just saw Marvel Rivals have a successful launch (with no server issues), whenever everything stabilizes here, we are going to see some even more incredible numbers.

It will be interesting to see what kind of mix of new and old players there are, and if any Diablo converts will find the game either better or worse than they’re imagining. But first, that requires anyone getting in. Check back here for updates when they occur.
