WNY weather prompts school closures
Buffalo Public Schools originally said its students, teachers, and staff would report for class on Friday. That’s not the case anymore.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Public Schools originally said its students, teachers, and staff would report for class on Friday.
Roughly three hours later, a little past 9 p.m. Thursday, Acting Mayor Christopher Scanlon declared a State of Emergency for the city, citing a high amount of snowfall, high winds, and hazardous conditions, especially in South Buffalo. Part of that includes a Travel Advisory that’s in place from William Street and points south to the city line.

BPS students will now have another snow day. There won’t be any classes on Friday.
“The snow fall has continued more intensely than predicted south of William Street resulting in a continued travel advisory in that part of Buffalo and the declaration of a City State of Emergency,” BPS said in a statement around 9:30 p.m.
“Many of our staff in surrounding areas are also facing snow totals that prevent their ability to report. Continue to stay safe and warm.”
In a statement issued around 6 p.m. Thursday, BPS had said it would monitor conditions and make any necessary changes based on that.
“The district will continue to closely monitor the weather conditions and will respond appropriately to any developments that might have an impact on any region Buffalo Public Schools serve,” the school district said.
