GTA 6 Trailer 2 has already smashed surprising Rockstar Games record

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 still hasn’t been seen in over a year, earning it the dubious honour of the longest gap between information on one of the studio’s games

After Take-Two’s CEO dubbed GTA 6 ‘extraordinary’ fans are getting more and more desperate for news on Rockstar’s latest epic.

The game is likely to be one of the biggest entertainment launches of all time, with publishers reportedly trying to avoid releasing in a similar time frame, although it could slip to 2026.

With the first and only trailer arriving more than a year ago, though, fans are expecting a quiet Christmas – letting GTA 6 extend an unusual record among Rockstar’s titles.

GTA 6 sets new record for trailer wait

One user on X (formerly Twitter) explained that the time between news drops on the game is now the longest Rockstar has had in its history.

“The wait from GTA 6 Trailer 1 to Trailer 2 is the longest Rockstar has ever gone without revealing any new info about an upcoming game of theirs,” Detective explained at the end of November, before the Game Awards came and went without GTA – despite the game winning the ‘Most Anticipated Game’ award.

As the account explains, it’s not always trailers. Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 saw new screenshots in the gap between trailers, but Rockstar is keeping very quiet indeed.

One former developer said last week that there’s a good chance the Rockstar team is “geeking out” over the fan theories cropping up. These have included plotting the phases of the moon in GTA Online, as well as a PlayStation event that didn’t materialise, analysing social media posts and a mystery YouTube playlist.
