9 injured, one dead, police say
Nine people remain hospitalized and one was killed in a mass shooting that took place on the 8500 block of Loch Raven Boulevard in Towson on Tuesday evening, Baltimore County Police said.
Around 7:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Loch Raven Boulevard and White Oak Avenue, at the Johnson-Fosbrink Funeral Home, where they found a car flipped and on fire, and multiple victims, Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough said during a news conference following the incident.
Police were still determining how many people had been shot Tuesday night, McCullough said. Multiple gunshots were visible in the facade of the funeral home building, and shell casings were on the scene, he said.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound, police said.
The majority of nine victims who were transported to hospitals had gunshot wounds, police said in a news release late Tuesday. The department sent an update early Wednesday that the nine people were still in the hospital.

McCullough said police received multiple calls from residents about the volleys of gunfire.
“It appears that the individuals in this case somehow knew one another and that this incident was intentional and targeted toward the individuals that were involved,” he said.
Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski called the incident “shocking,” particularly for Baltimore County residents. “These types of incidents are unheard of here, and so, it really shocks the conscience,” he said, speaking at the news conference.
McCullough said “additional scenes” in the vicinity were under investigation and that “gunfire took place throughout the neighborhood.”
Investigators do not believe that the incident was related to business at the funeral home, which was closed at the time of the gunfire.
McCullough said the police department would “leave no stone unturned” and “put all resources toward trying to clear this case.” The department’s Wednesday news release reads, “Throughout the night, Baltimore County detectives worked tirelessly at the incident scene, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing any available surveillance footage to reconstruct a timeline of events.”
Olszewski said: “Obviously it’s very early on, but our hearts go out to anyone who’s impacted by violence. We will be supporting our public safety officials in the work ahead.”
